Takamatsu Ministry Initiative (TMI)

Vision:

Our mission at the Takamatsu Community Church is to plant and nurture reproducing churches in Kagawa Prefecture on the island of Shikoku.

Location:

This initiative is located in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture, Shikoku Island. Takamatsu is a beautiful island city, facing the Seto Inland Sea. It was a much smaller country town when Ralph and Stella Cox arrived over 60 years ago to begin planting churches. It is now a very modern, progressive city that attracts many tourists every year. The beauty of this place is evidence of our Creator God that, unfortunately, most Japanese still do not believe in.

History

The Takamatsu Community Church (TCCh) was started in 1998 in the Takamatsu Christian Center.  The first floor of Takamatsu Christian Center has always been used as a church birthing location. A church would begin, and after a nucleus was formed, they would begin working toward moving out of the center to their own location and pastor. Once out, another church would soon begin. At present, our team is working with nine church plants at various stages of development.

May God continue to bring Japanese to Himself and establish His church in Takamatsu!

Ministries

Team Leader Mike Gray writes, “There are a vibrant group of Filipinos, Japanese and North Americans all worshipping and serving together to reach the international community of Takamatsu. Many different avenues of evangelism are used, including English conversation classes, music (through our band, the Messengers), cooking classes, street evangelism, mothers’ meetings (parenting), and kids’ meetings.”

We are passionate about reaching and teaching those around us through whatever means the Lord provides. Much of our efforts are now directed toward the multiple classes we offer, which are designed to reach out into the community by teaching a new skill, while also building trust and friendships that can lead to sharing the gospel.

Another way we are reaching the community is with music. It is a very useful tool we can use, specifically with our band, the Messengers. We have produced multiple CDs and been able to pass out hundreds over the past few years!

We desire that our ministry would continue to grow and expand, reproducing churches and equipping believers to spread the gospel in Takamatsu and beyond. We thank God for how He has provided, and are excited to see where He will lead us!
